Today was a very emotional, very sad day because today we made a very hard decision that sometimes parents have to make - we gave away one of our "children" to save our child. Our first dog, Austin, had been showing more and more signs of aggression towards our other dog, Brian, and other various people that would come into our home or that we would see outside of our home. He ocasionally was aggressive to me, but rarely. (When I say showing aggressive behavior, I mean baring his teeth and growling and showing aggressive posture. He actually attacked our other dog several times.) Well, I had always said that if he ever made a move at my baby, he'd be gone. That happened earlier last week. Somehow the two of them collided or went for the same toy or something while she was playing in the kitchen and I heard him growl and when I turned around, there he was standing over my baby baring his teeth, snarling, and just inches from her face (she was now laying on her back and crying). It was probably the scariest thing I had ever seen in my life! I ran over there, scooped her up and kicked him outside. I was so angry and hurt because I now I really knew what he was capable of and that meant he was out. So today we took him over to a potential new owner's house and within an hour of him being there, he had growled and tried to bite her too, so we went back and got him and took him directly to the humane society that we had got him from in the first place. We had that dog for almost 4 years and I can't believe he turned on us that way.
Needless to say, we've had a really bad week.
So here's a cute pic of Little Red to cheer me up and remind me that we made the right decision to protect our child and any of her friends that may have been bitten by that mean mean dog!
